Penny has a quiet way about her that you feel almost instantly. She’s one of those little souls that doesn’t demand attention, but somehow always has your heart completely wrapped around her without even trying. At just under 10 pounds, she is full grown and perfectly petite, a Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix with that soft, hypoallergenic coat that makes her not only beautiful, but so easy to have in the home as well. She’s the kind of girl that fits so naturally into your life that it feels like she’s always been there.
She came to us after her previous owner sadly passed away. A close friend of theirs reached out, wanting to make sure Penny never ended up in a shelter or in the wrong hands, especially with her not yet being spayed. It was clear how loved she was, and we made it our promise to carry that love forward and find her the life she deserves.
During her time with us, Penny went through something we truly didn’t expect. What we initially thought was a mass on her abdomen turned out to be something entirely different. At the time of surgery, our vet discovered she had an unrepaired hernia that had allowed her kidney to slip out of place, which is what we were seeing externally. By the grace of God and the quick thinking of our vet, he was able to safely place her kidney back where it belongs and properly repair the hernia. He believes it was likely caused by some form of past trauma, though with her previous owner no longer here, we may never know the full story. What matters most is that she is now fully on the mend and expected to live a completely healthy life moving forward. Our vet truly did an incredible job putting her back together, and she has handled it all with so much grace.
Penny is spayed, current on all of her vaccines, microchipped, and even had a full dental cleaning and polish done.
She is wonderfully well mannered in the home. She sleeps peacefully in her crate through the night and is very adaptable, whether that means continuing in a crate, having a bed of her own, or curling up beside you. She is house trained and does great on a consistent schedule, going outside every 3–4 hours when asked. She walks beautifully on leash and truly enjoys her outings, taking in the world in such a calm and gentle way.
Her temperament is something really special. Penny is not high energy, and while she will pick up a toy here and there, she is much more content simply being near you. She loves to lounge close by, sit at your feet, and quietly follow you from room to room just to be part of whatever you’re doing. She doesn’t want to miss a single moment with her person, and that kind of devotion is something you don’t come across every day.
She is phenomenal with other dogs and does just as well with cats, but her heart is truly centered around her person. She doesn’t need another animal in the home to feel complete, though she would absolutely make a wonderful addition to an existing pack. She is not a barker and carries such a peaceful, serene energy about her that brings a sense of calm wherever she goes.
She does beautifully at the groomer and is an absolute dream on car rides, happily joining you on any adventure, big or small.
Penny truly is the sweetest, happiest little girl, and it’s been such a gift having her with us. We are so excited to find her a home where she will be cherished just as deeply as she deserves.
Her adoption fee is $2000. This helps cover the extensive veterinary care she has received, which alone exceeds what we are asking, and does not include the time, love, training, and daily care we have poured into her. But that’s okay, we see the rest as a gift from us to her future family, a small token of our love for this incredible girl 💗
