Meet Little Z 🩵
Sometimes the smallest dogs have a way of taking up the biggest space in your heart, and Little Z is exactly that kind of boy.
Born 2/22/24, he is an adorable Yorkie/Shih Tzu mix weighing right around 5 pounds full grown. He is naturally tiny, with the sweetest little face, expressive eyes, and a personality that makes you want to scoop him up and keep him close.
He is a gentle, affectionate little guy with a wonderfully curious side. He likes to know what is happening around him and enjoys being included in everyday life. He isn’t a wild or overly busy dog, but he is observant, interested, and happiest when he feels like he is part of whatever his person is doing.
At heart, he is very much a companion dog. He loves being close to his people and would thrive with someone who genuinely wants their dog to be part of their day. Sitting beside you while you relax, following you around the house, riding along in the car, going on errands, or simply curling up nearby while you go about your routine would make him perfectly happy.
He has a calm, easygoing nature in the home and is not a habitual barker. He is much more likely to quietly observe what is happening than feel the need to announce everything going on around him.
He is wonderful with other dogs and cats and has done beautifully meeting men, women, and children. He can absolutely share his home with another animal companion, but he doesn’t need another dog to be happy as long as he has plenty of companionship and interaction from his person.
Because he is only around five pounds, there are some special considerations that come along with having such a tiny dog. He should never be sent outside unattended, even in a fenced yard, because birds of prey and other wildlife can pose a very real danger to a dog his size. His family will need to accompany him outside for potty breaks and keep a close eye on him anytime he is outdoors.
He understands puppy pads as an indoor potty option as well. As with any dog transitioning into a new home and routine, his new family should be prepared to continue working with him consistently and patiently as he learns exactly what is expected of him in their home. He will do best with someone willing to give him structure, repetition, praise, and the time needed to establish a dependable routine rather than expecting perfection from the moment he arrives.
He is crate trained and is comfortable sleeping through the night in his crate, although being the little companion that he is, he certainly wouldn’t object to eventually sleeping close to his person or having his own cozy bed nearby.
Leash walking has not been a major part of his life, so this is another area his new family can continue introducing and working on with him. At only five pounds, he is also incredibly easy to bring along in your arms, a carrier, sling, or stroller while continuing to safely expose him to the world around him.
He travels wonderfully and has already shown us that car rides and road trips are no problem for him. He also does beautifully for grooming and is such a good little boy on the grooming table.
What we want most for our little guy this time around is commitment.
He needs someone who understands that bringing a dog home isn’t only about falling in love with all of the wonderful things about them. It is also about being willing to teach them, guide them, establish routines, and work through the things that may still need improvement. He is an incredibly sweet little dog, but like every dog, he deserves a family willing to invest the time and consistency necessary to help him become the very best version of himself.
In return, you are getting five tiny pounds of companionship, affection, curiosity, and a little shadow who truly just wants to belong.
Little Z isn’t looking for perfection.
He’s looking for his person, someone who will love him enough to teach him, include him, protect him, and make the next home he walks into the one he never has to leave. 🩵
His adoption fee is $2,000. This includes his neuter, dental cleaning and polish, vaccines, microchip, and thorough veterinary examination and clearance. His adoption fee also helps cover the care, training, grooming, food, supplies, and love invested into him while he is with us.
He is ready for his fresh start.
Now we just need to find the person whose heart has a Little Z-sized space waiting for him. 🩵
