Meet our handsome boy Jake. He is an 10 month old purebred shih tzu. He weighs 13.5 lbs. Yes, he is full grown and at a very healthy weight. He is set to be neutered the week of the 17th (March 2025.) He will be current on vaccines, microchipped, thoroughly examined by our vet, and cleared prior to adoption.
He is house trained, and will go outside through the day to use the restroom as needed when asked to. His prior owner also pad trained him as she lived in an apartment and didn't have a yard for him to go potty in while she was at work during the day. She unfortunately had a decrease in income, and had to move into a smaller unit. She knew the financial change not only affected her, but also her sweet boy as she couldn't afford to keep him moving forward so she reached out to us to take him in and find him the home he deserved ❤️
He is crate trained, and will sleep in a crate at night. It is not his favorite place to be, as he was used to being in a bed of his own next to his previous owners at night. He has adjusted to being in a crate at night here but it did take some serious convincing on our end. If you are okay making the crate obsolete in his next home, I assure you he will have zero judgement and will fully support your decision 😂
He is leash trained, and loves his walks however he can get them. He loves to go “bye bye” and will happily trot to your car so he can jump in and be part of whatever venture the day brings 😊 He is an amazing traveler and just lounges on his bed, or in his booster seat the whole time.
He is very good with other dogs, and cats alike. He didn't have much socialization with other dogs coming to us but had a best cat friend he left behind. He has learned that dogs can play nice too, and while they aren't as quiet as his last buddy they have their quirks he has come to love. He is still learning to play, but has definitely learned how to be social in the pack even if that means simply just hanging with them while they play 😎
He is a total people dog and his true happiness lies with having a human friend. You don't need other animals for him to find his joy, as long as he has you that's all he will ever need (and yes, he told me to relay this to his new potential adopter in his post😉.)
He is sweet and kind! He has a beautiful heart and loves with all that he is. He cries sometimes when his favorite human walks out the door, but quickly puts himself back together and finds someone to fill the void til they return back home to him. He is affectionate, and LOVES cuddles. He is a total blanket dog, and has discovered why bears like to hibernate so if you ever can't find him, check under the covers of any nearby blanket and you are sure to find him nestled under one fast asleep 😅
He is a lot of fun, and has so much character! He is a joy to be around, and so extremely smart!! He has learned to sit, stay, come, bye bye, load up, down, and off. He also knows “treat” very well (maybe too well!! 😂.) He is very food motivated, and driven to simply please his person but always appreciates a little love in return especially if it's dipped in peanut butter ☺️
He is not a barker, but will occasionally alert you of sounds like he believes needs to know his presence but he minds very well, and will let you take over as you please 😊
As of now his adoption fee is set at 1500.
It will cover his neuter, vaccines, microchip/registration, and his exam with our vet. If additional vetting is needed such as a dental cleaning then his fee will be adjusted to help offset those extra costs. As always his adoption fee also goes back into the care involved in the time he has been with us, his grooming costs, and his training.
