Rio

Meet Rio 🩵

Rio is an adorable Pomapoo (Pomeranian/Poodle mix) who is 1 year old and weighs approximately 7 to 8 pounds full grown. He is the perfect size to accompany you wherever life takes you while still being sturdy enough to enjoy all the adventures that come along the way.

One of the wonderful things about Rio is his coat. He sheds very mildly, and if you’re familiar with Pomeranian coats, you’ll truly appreciate just how manageable his is in comparison. Having that touch of Poodle in his DNA has helped tremendously in reducing the amount of shedding and maintenance typically associated with the breed. While he isn’t considered completely hypoallergenic, he comes pretty darn close and may be a wonderful fit for families looking for a companion with a more allergy-friendly coat.

Rio came to us through no fault of his own. His previous owner was a young gentleman who had recently completed school and would soon be starting a career that required 10 to 12 hour shifts away from home. Rio had been accustomed to having his person with him throughout the day while his owner completed much of his schooling online. Knowing that Rio thrived with companionship and deserved a life that mirrored the one he had always known, his owner lovingly entrusted us with finding him a home where he would continue to receive the time, love, and devotion he deserves.

Rio is wonderful with other dogs and enjoys having canine companions to play alongside. That said, he would be just as happy being the sole recipient of someone’s affection. In fact, there is a good chance he might prefer it. He absolutely adores his people and would be perfectly content spending his days simply by your side, sharing life together one moment at a time.

Because Rio wasn’t socialized extensively with men outside of his owner, we have learned that it can take him a little time to warm up to unfamiliar male figures. Women, however, have quickly become some of his favorite people thanks to the many positive experiences he had with female neighbors and family members in his previous home. Because of this, we feel Rio would thrive either with a female adopter or within a family willing to give him the patience and understanding he needs while building confidence around the men in his life. He is still very young, and as he continues to have positive experiences, we truly believe he will learn to love men just as deeply as he loves women.

Rio loves walks and would make a wonderful companion for anyone who enjoys taking daily strolls. Whether it’s a leisurely walk through the neighborhood or a little adventure exploring somewhere new, he is always eager to tag along.

Car rides are another favorite pastime of his. He has learned that hopping in the car often means spending quality time with his favorite person, and he happily settles in for whatever new venture lies ahead.

He is crate trained and currently sleeps peacefully in his crate throughout the night or during the few hours we may need to step away from home during the day. If he can see you, he’ll certainly let you know that he’d much rather be by your side than inside his crate. However, once his person is out of sight, he settles nicely and understands that his crate is a safe and comfortable space.

Rio is house trained and incredibly intelligent. In his previous home, he was accustomed to going out on leash for potty breaks, but he has also learned to go outside throughout the day when asked. He adapts beautifully to routines and genuinely wants to do well for his people.

He isn’t much of a barker, though he may occasionally alert you to something unfamiliar. At this point, he has become quite accustomed to the everyday sounds of life, so it would have to be something particularly interesting to capture his attention enough to earn a bark.

Grooming has become a positive experience for him as well. His previous owner completed all of his grooming at home, so becoming familiar with professional grooming tools and learning the routines of a proper spa day has been a wonderful opportunity for him to continue building confidence. And while he may not admit it outright, we think he secretly enjoys being pampered.

Rio truly is a wonderful little friend. He loves participating in whatever you’re doing, whether that’s running errands, going for walks, folding laundry, or simply relaxing at home. When left to entertain himself, you’ll often find him playing with a favorite toy, taking a cozy nap, or watching the world go by from a nearby window.

He is easygoing, adaptable, and genuinely happy. Rio has a beautiful way of finding contentment in life’s simplest moments, and he would make an incredible companion for someone searching for a best friend to share everyday life with. Whether it’s enjoying your morning coffee together, taking an afternoon stroll, or curling up on the couch to watch your favorite show, Rio will be happiest simply knowing he’s right where he belongs… beside you. 🩵

Rio’s adoption fee is currently $1,500. He is scheduled to be neutered soon and will go home current on all vaccines, microchipped, thoroughly examined, and fully cleared by our veterinarian prior to adoption. Should any additional veterinary needs arise during his neuter appointment, such as a dental cleaning, his adoption fee may be adjusted accordingly to reflect the care provided.

His adoption fee also helps cover the months of care, socialization, training, and grooming that have gone into preparing him for the wonderful future that awaits him.
